Alenia Aermacchi represents Finmeccanica’s aviation sector and is the largest aviation company in Italy with a 2012 revenues of € 2.97 billion, orders of € 3.2 billion and a backlog of € 8.8 billion. A worldwide leader in the design, develop¬ment, production, maintenance, and modification of commercial and defence aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, military trainer aircraft and aerostructures, Alenia Aermacchi, with all its controlled and participated companies, counts a total workforce of over 11,000 people.

Alenia has a wide net¬work of joint ventures and product and programme¬ partnerships, such as SCAC with the Russian company Sukhoi for the production of the Sukhoi Superjet 100, a new family of 75-100-seat regio¬nal jets; Eurofighter, with the British BAE Systems and the German-Spain Cassidian, for the production of the Eurofighter Typhoon, a twin-engine supersonic aircraft and ATR with EADS for the production of tur-boprop regional aircraft. Furthermore, Alenia Aermacchi is in charge of the development of ATR special versions for maritime patrol and antisubmarine warfare.
Alenia Aermacchi has also a strategic partnership with Boeing, in the design and production of the stabiliser and centre and rear fuselage of the new 787 Dreamliner.
The company, leading the programme Green Regional Aircraft, also covers a crucial role in the Clean Sky JTI (Joint Technology Initiative) programme, a project promoted by the European Commission to study the configuration of future commercial aircraft, focusing on eco-sustainability, energy efficiency improvement and acoustic impact reduction.
Alenia Aermacchi is also focused on the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) market with the creation of unmanned platforms specifically deve¬loped to be used as demonstrators of innovative techniques and technologies and participations in international collaboration programmes.
